Today is an exciting day for Simpsons fans and, I’d like to think, classic arcade game fans as a whole, because FOX is celebrating the upcoming 500th episode of the long-running cartoon series. As such, Konami, in partnership with Gracie Films and Twentieth Century Fox’s Consumer Products branch officially released a home console port of the classic arcade title, The Simpsons Arcade Game. Actually, the game has been available since Friday on Xbox Live Arcade, and is specifically launching for download via the Playstation Network today. Ah, memories of Marge swinging that vacuum cleaner…

Anywho! This port features some slightly updated content, including three gameplay modes – Quarters Mode, which plays like the classic coin-operated version, Survival Mode, which only gives you ONE life, and the casual Free Play mode, which offers unlimited continues – plus the complete Japanese version of the game, which had never been released outside of Japan before, and digital copies of the original advertising materials for the game from 1991. The Simpsons Arcade Game is available for $9.99 USD/800 Microsoft Points. The 500th episode will air on Sunday, February 19th.
